"A nation that forgets its past can function no better than an individual with amnesia"-David McCullough 23April1978
Everybody wants to make historical comparisons. Iraq and Vietnam, this bad guy or that and Hitler, GW wants to be Reagan, etc. We don't pay attention very well.
History repeats itself. Not because it is natural, but because people forget, and so make the same mistakes. Now, I could go on about the fall of Rome, multiculturalism, any number of topics, but I'm going to focus on Iraq today.
No one but Rome has ever defeated an insurgency in the Middle East. Ask the British about Palestine. The questions that our military leaders need to be asking themselves are obvious: What mistakes have been made in the Middle East throughout history? What similar mistakes have been made in Iraq? What did the Romans do right and do their tactics apply today? What has been known to be effective in the past in a similar situation, and how can that be applied to Iraq?
Its a matter of taking the gloves off, according to a guy that I know. We cannot continue from a position of weakness. We have let Iraq know that we want them to handle their own affairs. We need to remind Iraq and the rest of the region that we are fully capable of returning the situation to a full scale military action. You know, the ugly stuff that CNN and FoxNews can't stomach.
We need to actually shock and awe these insurgents and all who support them. Remember air strikes? Those were fun. Remember when we were fighting that seemingly endless war and then we wiped out some really big cities and took the heart out of the enemy? I'm not saying we should nuke anyone. I'm saying we should reduce certain areas to rubble, women and children and old people be damned. We should have done so to Fallujah. We should close the borders of Iraq, but everyone knows that America cannot secure a border. If we catch Iranians involved in killing American troops, we should blow up some Iranians. Maybe that's harsh, but it IS fair.
I don't want Iraqis to suffer. I don't want Iraq to be unsafe for Iraqi children. I do want to win, though. If we make the environment harsh on our terms for awhile, we can eventually make a difference.

In basic training, our soldiers are not taught to rebuild nations with a "bleeding heart" policy. They are not trained to "win hearts and minds". The only thing our military is trained to do is approch the objective, and destroy it by any means nessisary. There is only one job the American military was trained from the start to do. PRODUCE AN ENEMY BODY COUNT. Its what we do best. We did it in every war we have fought. As the years progressed, we got better at it. Soldier survivability has skyrocketed with time. Training and tools have gotten infinatly better. We are capable of better than 100 enemy dead to every 1 American soldier lost to combat. We are not rebuilders. We are not politicans. We are not winners of hearts and minds. We are a destructive force capable of great feats in combat. What the president is trying to do is carve a perfect country out of clay using a sledgehammer. Not gonna happen. No matter how many hammers you use, cant do it. We already won the war. We are loosing the rebuild. Japan jumped back fine, and we NUKED them! Whats wrong with Iraq? They dont want to jump back. They want to line their own pockets with US money until it stops coming in.
and by the way, how did Rome squash the middle east, 23?
Extremely well put, 22G.
Rome estimated the number of insurgents in Palestine, then sent 3 times that number of troops to squash the rebellion. That's where the old 3 to 1 us to them ratio comes from...
I'm thinking we need to change the name of the operation from Iraqi Freedom to OPERATION GLASS FACTORY!! Think of the economic benefits of owning a country completely made of glass!!!! Garden nomes, cat figurines, hash pipes....all these wonderful things can be made from glass!!! but seriously muslims are fairly worthless. They always have been and they always will be. It says so in the bible. Isacs children will be a scourge on the earth for all time. Our only hope is to occupy Iraq with authority and enact martial law. While we are doing that we need to re-educate the youth of Iraq. You can't teach an old dog new tricks, so start with the kids. Then in 20 or 30 years they may act right. Maybe, but probably not. The only other solution is genicide but thats not going to happen. Not to say that I don't think it should, b/c I do. All those bleeding hearts out there need to realize that muslims hate your guts, they want you and your children to die horrible deaths, they want to disembowl you with a rusty machette and dance with your entrails. But we should care about them and help them huh? WAKE UP!!! Kill em all.
P.S. Tell the girls I love em : )
