I've been out posting comments on the Congressional Blog (link titled Congress, to your right) and at the Capitol Hill Pundits Blog (Commentary from DC, also to your right) and it occurred to me that I come from a different planet than most of these people. You see, most of DC is discussing what the different options are for Iraq.
There are two choices in Iraq. Win or leave.
There is a colorful expression here in the South, perhaps you have heard it-"Shit or get off the pot."
That pretty much sums up the situation in Iraq. If we are going to invest our people, our time, and our money in Iraq, then lets get on with the ugly buisiness of war. If we are not yet ready to commit to winning (after 6 friggin years), then lets withdraw.
In the Army, we are taught that a leader must be able to make a decision. GW has made a decision. While he is going about the buisiness of leading, Congress is arguing and debating and investigating and discussing.
While the debate continued over whether or not we should be in Iraq, I was there. While Congress debates whether or not we should send more troops to Iraq, I'll be heading back (or someone like me).
What strikes me as funny is that this is supposed to be a different congress.
Whether you agree with him or not, you have to admit that GW may be the only real leader we have.

he may be the only one leading, but hes leading in a direction HE thinks is best. when he thinks, it scares retarded kids. no offense to the kids.
Well, that's productive.
I believe that the new plan has potential. I don't believe that it can work unless we all commit to winning in Iraq. We all claim to be supporting the troops, but we continue to allow our supposed "leaders" to play partisan politics with the blood of our sons and daughters. Maybe this is light-hearted material for you, but by your name I would imagine that it really shouldn't be. As a soldier, YOU follow your commander-in-chief, like it or not. If not, fine. It is YOUR duty to contact your congressman and raise hell.
i love my country, and i love my unit even more, but i will always reserve my right to call my commander in chief screwed in the head because hes trying everything in the book to make a mistake turn out in favor of him. personally, i think hes already hit the lame duck stage, but hes kinda sad nobody likes him. he wants to go out with a win, but with all the politics wrapped up in this war, it aint gonna happen til he takes the handcuffs off his soldiers and lets them fight. and letting the iraqi prime minister order OUR troops to take down checkpoints so he can please his puppetmaster Sadar, thats just plain stupid.
OK, I don't like it either, but Maliki IS the Prime Minister of Iraq. Maybe he was trying to prevent a further escalation of violence, and so approached the only reasonable party in the picture. Or maybe he was trying to appease AlSadr so he can remain in power after we pull out. You can't complain about haji acting like haji, it's pointless.
Anyway, do you have a solution that doesn't involve talking smack, or are you through?
We need to go kick some ass. Those ragheads are never going to be like us, but with help from us they're better than they were. We need to finish the war. Hello, people? Remember we're at WAR, because we suffered an unprovoked attack on civilians on our on soil? Win the war, then come home. Congress, shut up.
you know as well as i do there is no such thing as talking it over in a haji's head. islamic fanatics are set in their ways from years of media brainwashing and a shitty enviornment bent on destroying anything western in origin. there is a time for talk and a time for action. you cant talk a suicide bomber out of it. you cant talk fanatic out of his religon. you said it yourself, islam is a violent religion. they only understand a fist in the face. these people will not relent until we SHOW them that we arent taking shit anymore. if it takes the systematic destruction of every one of the bastards, im all for it. America needs to adopt the no tolerance policy israel seems to take against bullshit. no tolerance. thats my solution. only problem, its not POLITICALLY CORRECT. oh well.
As far as talking suicide bombers out of it, I would imagine that it COULD be done. I never had to face a suicide bomber, so I don't know. I did personally witness a few Mehdi's Army change their religion once the bullets started flying, but it was usually too late.
As far as genocide, I am emphatically against it. They may belong to a religion that I see as the wrong one, but they have that God-given right. You can shout about killing all of them if you want to, but I just want to kill or imprison the radicals.
Anyway, I'm tired of this discussion, so I won't respond to anymore of your comments on this post, 22G. If you need to get the last word in, go ahead.
