Really, America?...

You Need A Raise

OK, Congress, here's a lesson in simple economics...

If the guy that works at Flash Market and McDonald's gets a raise, then his employer has to charge more for Ho-Hos and DumDums. If the guy busting tires makes more money, then his employer has to charge truck drivers more for tire service. If truck drivers get charged more, then stuff costs more to transport. If stuff costs more to transport, then your hard-earned dollar is worth less than it was...

So Congress today passed a bill to make the American Dollar worth less money.

How does that make you feel?

Don’t forget who has to pay more income taxes, sales taxes, excise taxes, inventory taxes, etc. to the state and federal government due to the increased wages and costs of goods!!!

Every year members of our elected government, civil service employees, and other government officials get HUGE wage increases. Every year Social Security gives a cost of living increase. Those living on minimum wage cannot afford decent living conditions, health insurance, dental care, etc. Because they are working and make "too much", they cannot get government assistance.

Because of the government wage increases, price go up anyway. I know! My first husband was a Federal Government Civil Servant. Every September he received a cost of living increase-which by the way- was a lot more than the 3.3% increase my present husband received for SS disability this year Prices where we lived went up everytime.

The problem is not that minimum wages are going up, its that they go up every five to ten years and that causes such an impact that everyone feels it. If minimum wage employees received the same cost of living raise that Social Security gives each year, it would not cause such havoc.

How do government wage increases cause prices to go up? Why do we expect people with minimum wage jobs to afford health insurance?
The last minimum wage increase has allowed for periodic increases, the last of which was supposed to raise it to $6.25 on 01October2006. So we just gave Joe Gas Pumper a dollar an hour raise. Overhead causes prices to go up, not government wages. An increase in employee wages is part of overhead.

The minimum wage was created to establish minimum acceptable poverty levels, not provide health insurance or a nice place for people with no marketable job skills or training. If people who earn minimum wage want more money, they need to find a better way to earn it. I'm not trying to be mean, just honest. Minimum wage earners are well enough below poverty levels that they CAN get food stamps (if they have children)and they may qualify for some HUD programs. (Se my post entitled Your Analysis).

You seem to think that the middle class owes the impoverished a living. We don't. We should and do give them a helping hand, but anyone with responsibilities (ie, a house payment, a light bill, kids, whatever) should show some initiative and get some education or training (Pell Grants are easy).
